We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Implementation Manager for Peer Review Systems with a focus on the alternative peer review method Select Crowd Review (SCR) to join our global Science Journal Publishing team.
You are utilizing a very ‘hands on’ approach and drive in a fast paced and rapid changing environment leveraging strong interpersonal skills. You are eager to work with colleagues and researchers on our submission, peer-review and open access processes and contribute to a framework of continuous improvement.

The team is responsible for the set-up and after go-live maintenance of submission and peer-review processes for our academic journals. In particular this includes enhancement of the product SCR, a crowd based alternative peer review model, setup and adaptions of peer review sites, implementation of new tools and features and a wide range of manuscript level query support tasks for internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Product Select Crowd Review (SCR): Manage, organize, and oversee the project of developing and implementing SCR as an efficient and effective product for our academic journals ensuring high quality of the product considering customer feedback, the business unit strategy as well as time and budget constraints.
  • Peer Review System: Implement new peer review system sites and successful adaptations to existing sites, both against the background of meeting specific requirements while maintaining or expanding standards. Support external (editors, reviewers and authors) and internal stakeholders with journal and manuscript matters across pre-submission to editorial acceptance.
  • Documentation and Communication: Create, maintain, and adjust guidelines and documentation for SCR and peer review system setup for internal and external use by utilizing your existing knowledge of publishing processes. Work closely with colleagues to ensure changes and initiatives are well communicated and implemented.
  • Customer centric mindset and continuous improvement: Gather and use customer feedback as well as raise own ideas to identify and highlight problems promptly, identify areas of action and propose improvements aligned with industry standards. Support improvement of processes and workflows benefitting your daily tasks as well as the wider business.
  • Quality monitoring: Create reports and overviews/ presentations/ documentation for internal and external use according to determined frameworks and standards. Confidently present and discuss defined policies/ processes with customers and key stakeholders.
  • Process set-up and change management: Participate and contribute to projects that will improve the publishing service.
  • Global stakeholders: Close, coordinated collaboration with Science Journal Publishing teams located in Stuttgart, London, New York, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, New Delhi, and Beijing as well as with colleagues in Production, Customer Experience, Marketing, Institutional Sales etc.

Qualifications

  • Educated to a degree level
  • In-depth knowledge of administrating peer review systems (preferably ScholarOne Manuscripts or also Editorial Manager), peer review processes as well as customer and market requirements
  • Proven experience in project management
  • Familiarity with journal science (academic) and knowledge of the scientific community and its needs
  • Agile and proactive design of the development process including customer feedback as well as thorough and profound understanding of technical contexts
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new processes, systems, their dependencies, and interaction as well as strong competency in problem solving, planning and decision making
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail, a hands-on attitude and flexibility to respond to non-routine circumstances
  • Team player with ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with colleagues, customers and executives.
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken), German would be a bonus
  • International and cultural sensitivity
